Over a Decade Ago: A Call to Build Beyond Expertise

More than ten years ago, I found myself facing a challenge that, while not directly articulated, demanded more than my expertise as a case manager. Positioned at the intersection of experience and opportunity, I recognized that the task required a blend of skills far beyond the confines of traditional case management.

Drawing from Experience: Pioneering a Family Program

With a foundation rooted in prior programming experiences, I embarked on a mission to create a family program from scratch. This initiative aimed to support families navigating the complexities of incarceration and foster meaningful moments in their reunification journey. The endeavor wasn't an overnight success, but a gradual, intentional process that unfolded over time.

Leadership Beyond Titles: Nurturing Families, Colleagues, and Interns

While I wasn't leading a team in the conventional sense, I found myself at the forefront of leading families we served, guiding interns seeking hands-on professional experience, and influencing colleagues and management. The essence of leadership, I discovered, lies not just in directing reporting staff but in spearheading initiatives that uplift and empower all stakeholders.

The Power of a Strength-Based Approach: A Paradigm Shift

Central to my approach was advocating for a strength-based methodology, particularly for those in vulnerable positions. I undertook the responsibility of enlightening my colleagues and management about the transformative impact of embracing strengths in our approach.
